Fanning Talks Back to Hounddog Hounds

Dakota Fanning I knew there was a very good reason why I’ve always adored Dakota Fanning ever since I first closely noticed her in the moving Sean Penn/Michelle Pfeiffer flick I Am Sam way back in 2001. My suspicions that the now twelve-year-old child actor is one highly intelligent little lady were confirmed when she recently spoke publicly about her feelings regarding some self-righteous people’s reaction to the “controversial” movie Hounddog, which concluded filming last July and premiered Monday at the Sundance Film Festival. When filming ended on the movie, breaking news that it contained a rape scene featuring young Fanning caused quite a stir, especially among some religious and conservative factions, who, of course, in typical/tired fashion, pursued such actions as boycotts.

Well, Fanning just wants those demagogues to know that the way they dissed her family and attacked her mother in particular “was extremely uncalled for and hurtful.” She further elaborates that adults “have to prepare [their] children for things that happen in the world” because “[e]verything isn’t rosy.” If Fanning keeps this wise talk up, she’s going to become one excellent role model in the future, unlike, say, the Lindsay Lohans and Britney Spearses that garner too much undeserved media attention right now.
