Will Walt and Jesse Finally Get Some Peace?

Don’t count on it. The Emmy-winning AMC hit Breaking Bad launches its highly anticipated third season on Sunday, March 21, at 10pm ET.

However, with a title like “No Mas,” which is Spanish for “No More,” viewers are guaranteed more, as in more of the problems and angst that meth-making partners Walt and Jesse have been enduring since Day 1 as they struggle to propel their fledgling drug empire to the top of the game and make boatloads of money in the process.

When Season Three kicks off this weekend, new daddy Walt will have to deal with both the tragedy that ended the second season and the by-now familiar anger of his wife Skyler, who, for her part, is finally motivated to seek some outside advice regarding her marriage and eventually ends up confronting Walt … again.

Meanwhile, Jesse experiences a little self-discovery following the recent tragedy in his own personal life, even as the latest drug rival determined to track down Heisenberg draws nearer.

Preview “No Mas” in the extremely interesting sneak peek below. Bet you’ve never seen that on TV before. Looks like Walt and Jesse should be very, very, very afraid — Krazy-8 and Tuco were obviously just the tip of the Freaky Drug Lords iceberg.

FYI: AMC is airing numerous episodes of Breaking Bad this weekend in advance of the season premiere. Check the network’s schedule for details and air times.

Hard Times Ahead for Ben and Chickie

Hard Times Ahead for Ben and Chickie

TNT import Southland reaches the halfway point of its six-episode second season with the brand-new March 16 installment “U-Boat.”

The episode features the return of Arija Bareikis‘s character Chickie Brown and Tom Everett Scott‘s Russell Clarke, both of whom were no-shows during last week’s “Butch and Sundance.”

As Ben handles several cases during his first solo patrol outing, earnest Chickie realizes she has to up her game when she’s paired with Ben’s training officer John Cooper.

Meanwhile, Lydia Adams and her temporary partner Rene Cordero (Amaury Nolasco, Prison Break) do some follow-up on struggling Season One single mom Brianna Smith (State of the Union‘s Lily Holleman), and abrasive Gil Puente (Laz Alonso, Avatar) continues to rub Sal and Sammy the wrong way as they work the Trinny Day undercover operation.

Preview a few scenes from “U-Boat,” which premieres at 10pm ET, below.

On a Side Note: If you’re a fan of Southland and haven’t done so already, now is the time to start recruiting all of your family, friends, acquaintances, and maybe a few strangers for good measure and convince them to watch the drama each week.

The ratings for the first two episodes sank from week to week (2.5 million versus 2.055 million total viewers and 1.3 million versus 968,000 viewers aged 18 to 49), which isn’t exactly what a network wants to see while determining whether or not a series merits a pickup for another season. Since Southland is excellent TV, I’d personally love to see the procedural avoid its fate at NBC and stick around for at least one more run.

Now on to the sneak peek…

Deadwood Alum Timothy Olyphant Stars

Deadwood Alum Timothy Olyphant Stars

I can’t think of another recent show I’ve looked forward to as much as FX’s intense new drama Justified, which finally premieres tonight, March 16, at 10pm ET. It seemed this day would never get here.

Based on the work of crime author Elmore Leonard, the sure-to-be-a-hit series features Damages and Deadwood veteran Timothy Olyphant in the lead lawman role.

Olyphant plays Stetson-loving Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. When he gets on the wrong side of his bosses thanks to a Miami shooting, Givens is exiled to the one place he hoped never to set foot in again: his scruffy hometown of Harlan, Kentucky, which he fled from at 19 years old. Now Givens’ job focuses on cleaning up the neighborhood and taking out the local criminal trash that rules, all while dealing with the effects of his past on his present.

Olyphant’s co-stars include Raymond Barry (Cold Case) as Raylan’s father Arlo Givens, a lifelong criminal; Joelle Carter (Third Watch) as Raylan’s earlier crush Ava Crowder; Walton Goggins (The Shield) as Raylan’s friend of sorts Boyd Crowder, currently a fugitive bank robber; Jacob Pitts (21) as Tim Gutterson and Erica Tazel (Jericho) as Rachel Brooks, Raylan’s fellow deputies; Nick Searcy (Easy Money) as Raylan’s boss Chief Deputy Art Mullen; and Natalie Zea (Dirty Sexy Money) as Raylan’s former wife Winona Hawkins.

The following promo pretty much sums it all up: In a lawless town where crime is tradition, his justice will be done. Gives me chills!

If you’re a fan of acclaimed yet frequently brutal FX standouts like The Shield and Sons of Anarchy, get ready to add another scorcher to the list. Already critics far and wide are loudly singing the show’s praises.

As in three hours big. That’s right — ABC sci-fi rookie FlashForward is back from hiatus this week and will kick off its uninterrupted spring run at 10pm ET tonight, March 16 … sort of.

Instead of a proper episode right off the bat, viewers will get the “What Did You See?” recap special, which reviews the first part of the season — ten episodes in all — that aired last year. There are currently 12 episodes left to premiere.

According to ABC, tonight’s hourlong summary will give viewers a refresher on how those pesky two-minute-and-17-second visions from six months in the future have upended the lives of the show’s main characters thus far.

The “real” episodes that pick up the action where it left off last December begin this Thursday, March 18, at 8pm. Fans can tune in then to “Revelation Zero,” a two-hour two-parter that will repeat on Saturday at 8pm, as well as the FlashForward sites at ABC.com and Hulu.com.

Prefer to catch up before the televised recap? Then check out the Starter Kit video below that ABC uploaded after FlashForward‘s fall finale in December.

Former Life Star Headed to USA Network

Former Life Star Headed to USA Network

More than ten months later, I still can’t believe NBC had the gall to cancel Life, one of the best shows on television at that time. But it’s a huge consolation right now that NBC’s basic-cable sister network USA Network has just given a 12-episode, full-season order to new series Facing Kate, a drama starring former Life lead (and recent Psych guest star) Sarah Shahi.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Facing Kate joins fellow Piper Perabo newbie Covert Affairs, another female-led series that USA Network picked up in January for a full season. Each hourlong show will likely launch later this year.

Shahi plays attorney Kate Reed on Facing Kate. The successful lawyer decides to leave the stress and frustrations of her high-profile career behind in order to become a mediator. So, instead of always fighting the legal system while trying to win for her client in court, she hopes to help both disputing parties win as they seek resolution of a problem out of court.

The premise doesn’t exactly turn me on, but it’s the execution that matters most anyway. With Shahi starring, there’s a strong possibility I’ll be able to get into the series when it begins airing. Now if only her terrific former Life co-star Damian Lewis could score a new show, too.

FYI: Other Facing Kate cast members include Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica‘s Samuel Anders — Woot!), Baron Vaughn (Law & Order), and Virginia Williams (How I Met Your Mother). They sweeten the premise considerably.

Fox has a brand-new half-hour comedy debuting tonight, March 14, at 9:30pm ET called Sons of Tucson. As fans of the fun, prematurely canceled devil dramedy Reaper already know, the sitcom stars the one and only Sock, better known as actor Tyler Labine in real life.

Labine plays a slacker dude (what else is new?) who goes by the very odd name Ron Snuffkin. Ron gets the opportunity of a lifetime — Not! — when young brothers Brandon, Gary, and Robby Gunderson (Benjamin Stockham, Frank Dolce, and Matthew Levy) unwisely hire him to pretend to be their father after the real McCoy earns a long vacation in prison land. You can just imagine the wacky adventures that ensue as Ron tries to pass himself off as something he so obviously is not, meaning a responsible and mature parent.

Sneak a peek at the Sons of Tucson pilot below. The midseason series has an order of 13 episodes currently scheduled to run throughout the spring season.

Tonight, March 13, at midnight (or should I say tomorrow morning, March 14?), Spike TV will air the 1987 cult vampire movie The Lost Boys, which features a young Corey Haim among the ensemble cast. The broadcast is the network’s way of paying tribute to the late actor following his death on March 10 at age 38.

The Lost Boys focuses on the otherworldly adventures of two brothers after their family relocates to California, right smack in the middle of a community where a gang of teenage vampires roam.

I haven’t watched The Lost Boys in a long time, but I’m an eternal fan of all things undead and horror, so the film was definitely one of my faves back in the day. Not only is it funny, entertaining, and scary at times, too, but it stars a slew of talented and familiar actors who are still around today.

Besides Haim, cast members include Corey Feldman and 24‘s Kiefer Sutherland, of course, as well as Jami Gertz, Jason Patric, Dianne Wiest, Alex Winter, Billy Wirth, and a whole lot more. It’s going to be just like old times and a fitting tribute to Haim while watching.

Is It the End of the Season or the Series?

Tonight, March 12, the math-obsessed FBI procedural Numb3rs presents the Season Six finale “Cause and Effect,” which may end up doubling as the drama’s series finale if CBS decides not to renew the show.

Considering that the network opted to reduce the current season from an original 22 episodes to just 16 back in November, it’s fair to say that the series’ outlook looks cloudy. However, also keep in mind that top CBS executive Nina Tassler claimed as recently as January that Numb3rs still has a chance to return for another run.

We’ll see and remain hopeful. If a pickup doesn’t happen, though, fans can at least watch the show in syndication on basic cable’s TNT, which also offers assorted full episodes online.

Tonight’s finale finds newlyweds Charlie and Amita delaying their trip to London in order to assist Don’s team in locating his missing firearm. Sounds way more fun than a boring old honeymoon to me.

Take a look at the “Cause and Effect” promo below and tune in to CBS at 10pm ET to watch the whole shebang.

Another Haunted House for Melinda

You know you’ve been a TV fan for a long, long time when you look at the list of a show’s latest guest stars and get excited when you see the name Deborah Van Valkenburgh. For the uninformed, that’s the actress who starred as Jackie Rush on the 1980–1985 Ted Knight sitcom Too Close for Comfort. Talk about golden oldies…

Van Valkenburgh plays a character named Madame Greta on Ghost Whisperer‘s brand-new March 12 episode “Old Sins Cast Long Shadows” (8pm ET).

The action focuses on a young girl named Cassidy (Joey King, CSI), whose soul is hot property among the familiar “dark forces” that inhabit the spirit world. So, it’s a given that Cassidy is going to be very grateful she has Melinda on her side after our favorite spirit communicator attends an estate sale that leads her to the haunted house where the girl is a long-time prisoner.

Also guest starring on “Old Sins Cast Long Shadows” are CSI and The O.C. alumna Melinda Clarke as Donna and Sons of Anarchy cast member Dendrie Taylor as Naomi.

Sneak a peek at the episode in the following promo to see what’s in store. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, that’s a bespectacled Van Valkenburgh sitting in the chair all dolled up like a retired librarian with a granny do. Very Psycho, no?

Seasoned crime journalist Aphrodite Jones may be best known these days for her pivotal 2007 book Michael Jackson Conspiracy, which chronicled the mass media’s ongoing and deliberately malicious persecution of the music icon up to and during his 2005 trial. Tonight at 10pm ET, Jones is crossing over to another medium when her new television series True Crime with Aphrodite Jones premieres on Investigation Discovery.

According to the basic-cable network, the show will feature the best-selling author as she gives viewers insight into “some of the most heinous murder cases and crimes of our time.” Cases covered during the first season include Scott Peterson (the subject of tonight’s series premiere), O.J. Simpson, Phil Spector, California’s infamous Zodiac serial killer, and, of course, Michael Jackson and the events leading up to June 25, 2009.

Get a sense of what this intriguing new show is all about in the promo clip below. And never fear if you’re interested but can’t watch at 10pm ET. Like many cable channels, Investigation Discovery will air encores of each episode; just check the network’s website for details and times.
