Criminal Minds Grad Lola Glaudini Costars

Criminal Minds Grad Lola Glaudini Costars

Cast members from two popular long-running CBS crime procedurals combine their acting talent in the new USA Network original movie John Sandford’s Certain Prey, which premieres tonight, November 6, at 9pm ET.

The telefilm features NCIS lead Mark Harmon as Deputy Police Chief Lucas Davenport, a hard-living veteran of the Minneapolis police force. When the chief investigates a woman’s murder that led to the shooting of a cop, he stumbles upon a deadly collaboration between clever assassin Clara Rinker (Tatiana Maslany, Being Erica) and her shady lawyer accomplice Carmel Loan (Lola Glaudini, Criminal Minds).

The movie comes from the Prey series of crime novels by Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Roswell Camp, who occasionally writes under the pseudonym John Sandford (hence he gets his name in bright lights in the flick’s official title). I suppose if the presentation performs well enough, viewers can look forward to Certain Prey sequels à la the well-received Jesse Stone flicks on CBS featuring Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck. I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Fans of USA Network’s most recent crop of summer original series have absolutely nothing to worry about at the moment. Every single one of the shows will return for another season, now that the network has just renewed rookie Necessary Roughness, along with more seasoned Covert Affairs and Royal Pains.

The trio join Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Suits, and White Collar, which received the good pickup news earlier. All but two of the shows have 16-episode orders for their next run. The notable exceptions are Burn Notice, which will include 16 to 18 episodes in its upcoming sixth season, and In Plain Sight, which will come to an end with an 8-episode fifth and final season.

2012 is looking great on USA Network!

Tonight, September 8, brings a hefty six-series lineup of summer and season finales. Leading the pack, in my opinion, is the surprisingly good freshman USA Network legal drama Suits, which has entertained me consistently since the show’s June 23 premiere.

Don’t you just love it when a series you have no expectations of sprints out of the gate to win you over immediately? The first-season finale “Dog Fight airs at 10pm ET. Thankfully for us fans, USA Network picked up a second 16-episode season of Suits in early August.

Other scripted shows winding down their current runs on September 8 include USA Network staple Burn Notice. The last episode of the summer debuts at 9pm, and the spy drama will return with new Season Five adventures in November.

Over on FX, adult comedies Wilfred and Louie close their first and second seasons, respectively, at 10pm and 10:30pm. Comedy Central animated series Futurama ends Season Six at 10pm, as well, and ABC cop drama Rookie Blue concludes Season Two at the same time, following a special extra episode at 9pm.

Suits currently airs Thursdays on USA Network at 10pm ET

Geesh, the eight episodes in the tenth and final season of USA Network crime procedural Law & Order: Criminal Intent went by fast, and now it’s time for fans of the best L&O ever to say goodbye during the June 26 series finale “To the Boy in the Blue Knit Cap.”

The last case on the roster for New York detectives Alex Eames (Kathryn Erbe) and Robert Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) revolves around two murdered people who worked at an Internet business embroiled in a major legal dispute. Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek guest stars.

Although the series finale is a low point of the summer season, at least fans can interact with stars Erbe and D’Onofrio on Twitter during the premiere of “To the Boy in the Blue Knit Cap” to give them a fitting goodbye. Just log into your Twitter account and head over to @USA_LawOrderCI to tweet with Erbe at 9pm ET and D’Onofrio at 12am ET (which is 9pm in Pacific time, when the episode debuts on the West Coast). I will definitely miss them both.

Wilfred and Suits Premiere

Wilfred and Suits Premiere

The summer television season officially begins for me tonight, June 23, with the premiere of trippy new FX comedy Wilfred at 10pm ET. The time also marks the debut of new USA Network original series Suits, which I’m much less enthusiastic to see.

Based on the Australian comedy of the same name, Wilfred features Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood as poor young Ryan, an average guy who’s having immense trouble just living. And then he gets into a surreal, twisted relationship with his attractive neighbor Jenna’s (Fiona Gubelmann, The Closer) dog Wilfred, which turns his world upside down, inside out, and numerous other convoluted ways. Jason Gann, the creator and star of the original show, reprises his canine role as the title character.

Over on USA Network, Suits stars Gabriel Macht (The Others) as corporate lawyer Harvey Specter. When he sets out to hire a new rising attorney to be his right-hand man, he ends up selecting Mike Ross, (Patrick J. Adams, Pretty Little Liars), a smart newcomer to the legal profession who lacks the most important thing of all — a law degree. Oops! Gina Torres of Alias (love her!) and Rick Hoffman (Samantha Who?) also star.

Sneak peeks at TV’s latest additions below. Wilfred precedes hilarious comedy Louie, which kicks off its second season at 10:30pm tonight, and Suits follows USA Network staple Burn Notice, which launches its fifth season tonight at 9pm.

Sundays on USA Network are going to be exciting yet bittersweet this summer. Although fans definitely appreciate having fresh installments of both Law & Order: Criminal Intent and In Plain Sight to watch, the first crime drama will be presenting its 10th and too-short final season of just eight episodes.

The summer fun begins tonight, May 1, at 9pm ET with much-missed detectives Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe) and Bobby Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) investigating on the “Rispetto” season premiere of the Law & Order spinoff. Actor Jay Mohr (Gary Unmarried, Ghost Whisperer) guest stars.

In Plain Sight follows in the 10pm time slot with its Season 4 premiere “The Art of the Steal.” Since the newer series has a total of 13 episodes during the current run, fans will get to watch it a bit longer in coming weeks. We’ll take what we can get of both shows.

Finally, what fans have been awaiting for months. USA Network has at last scheduled the season premieres of crime series In Plain Sight and Law & Order: Criminal Intent for the lovely month of May.

Both shows are now joined at the time slot and will return on Sunday, May 1. Law & Order: Criminal Intent, back for its tenth and last season of eight episodes with original series stars Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe thankfully in place, starts the night off at 9pm ET.

In Plain Sight follows on Sundays at 10pm with 13 episodes in its fourth season. The show’s third season ended abruptly three episodes early at the end of June 2010 due to showrunner John McNamara‘s leave for medical reasons, so many viewers will be that much more happy to see Mary, Marshall and Stan in action again.

Welcome back to both missed series. Spring is looking better already.

All About Ben Mercer

Entertaining USA Network spy drama Covert Affairs caps its hit freshman season with the “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and “When the Levee Breaks” double-episode finale, premiering tonight, September 14, from 9pm to 11pm ET.

The first episode focuses on Annie’s trip to London in order to infiltrate a smuggling crew, while Joan and Arthur butt heads over Henry Wilcox’s return to the CIA back in the States. Next, the season finale finds mysterious Ben Mercer willingly turning himself in to the CIA, which leads to a joint assignment in Sri Lanka for him and Annie so that they can locate one of his old assets.

Sneak one peek at “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and two peeks at “When the Levee Breaks” below. Looking extremely good.

Also Notable on September 14

Drama One Tree Hill opens its impressive eighth season on The CW at 8pm, followed by the second-season premiere of fantastic teen dramedy Life Unexpected at 9pm.

Over on NBC, funny and moving family dramedy Parenthood kicks off its second season at 10pm.

Finally, the (few) fans of rookie Comedy Central comedy Big Lake can catch its two-episode season finale starting at — Yikes! — 6pm. I guess it’s safe to assume there’s no sophomore run in store for the series.

And Lost Alum Nestor Carbonell Returns

The summer is ending with a Bourne saga-style adventure on the September 8 Psych midseason finale called “One, Maybe Two, Ways Out.”

Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy star Franke Potente guests on the episode, which also features former Lost cast members Jon Gries and Nestor Carbonell. Of course, Carbonell is reprising his role from the previous episode “Shawn 2.0″ as Shawn’s jealousy-inspiring sleuthing rival Declan Rand.

German actress Potente plays a framed spy named Nadia who needs Shawn and Gus’ assistance to clear her name. Unfortunately for the guys, helping her will require (1) avoiding getting killed by the people who are hunting down Nadia and (2) determining if she’s really telling them the truth.

Preview Potente and Carbonell’s appearance on Psych in the following three “One, Maybe Two, Ways Out” sneak peeks. The episode premieres at 10pm ET.

Confronting Kate’s Killer

It has been a fabulous summer for fans of USA Network original series White Collar, but, sadly, the season draws to a close tonight, September 7, with the second-midseason finale “Point Blank.”

Thanks to the discovery of a new essential clue, Neal plans a complicated scheme during the episode that just might help him bring Kate’s killer to deserved justice. Although his plans will definitely involve lots of danger, Neal should be alright, as long as Peter, Mozzie, Diana, and Jones continue to have his back, which you know isn’t going to change anytime soon.

One of the best decisions showrunners made for Season Two was giving the last three supporting characters more prominence. I hope their roles get even bigger and better as the series rolls on.

Take three lengthy looks at White Collar‘s summer finale below and tune in to the full episode at 9pm ET.
