I am so psyched. Former Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton and The Practice star Dylan McDermott return to the small screen at 10pm ET tonight, October 5, in their brand-new paranormal FX series American Horror Story. This could be the beginning of a great TV relationship.

The series focuses on married couple Ben, a therapist, and Vivien Harmon (McDermott and Britton), who move to Los Angeles from Boston with their teen daughter Violet (newcomer Taissa Farmiga). Their goal is to leave their complicated past behind and start over fresh, but their chosen residence has a somewhat complicated past of its own, unfortunately.

Also starring are magnificent film actress Jessica Lange (Tootsie) and Six Feet Under veteran Frances Conroy. The show comes to us courtesy of the talents of Glee and Nip/Tuck executive producers Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy, so viewers have ample reason to expect another entertaining FX series. Fingers crossed.

Preview the latest interesting entry in FX’s programming schedule below.

Sigh. Television will lose another one of its better series tonight, September 7, after the extended 80-minute series finale of FX firefighter dramedy Rescue Me airs at 10pm ET. The swan song debuts at a fitting time, too, since the tenth anniversary of the historic event that inspired the show — the September 11th terrorist attacks — occurs this Sunday.

Titled “Ashes,” the last new episode ever of Rescue Me reveals what happens to the members of fictional Ladder Company 62 following their most recent efforts to extinguish a brutal fire. Predictably, the lives of veterans will change as the New York City Fire Department introduces a new batch of probationary firefighters to the job.

I’m definitely going to miss hanging out with Tommy Gavin & Company in the future. Thanks for seven interesting seasons of hard knocks, rampant crudeness and occasional feel-good times.

As hard as it is to believe, the seventh and last season of abrasive FX firefighter series Rescue Me kicks off tonight, July 13, at 10pm ET with the premiere “Mutha.”

When we last hung out with loudmouthed Tommy Gavin and his equally vulgar gaggle of colleagues, acquaintances, and relatives, times were as tense as ever. Most significantly, rookie firefighter Damien — the son of Tommy’s every-now-and-then lover Sheila and dead cousin Jimmy — became a brain-damaged invalid while putting out a fire after Tommy convinced him not to quit the job.

The final season of Rescue Me continues that storyline while introducing other complications, such as the typical family strife and an event in honor of 9/11 that endangers Tommy’s career.

So, will Tommy sink (yet again) or swim (ditto)? Who knows, but watching as the inevitable drama unfolds will be the best part, no doubt.

Peek behind the scenes of Rescue Me‘s last season in the following video titled simply “The End.”

The summer television season officially begins for me tonight, June 23, with the premiere of trippy new FX comedy Wilfred at 10pm ET. The time also marks the debut of new USA Network original series Suits, which I’m much less enthusiastic to see.

Based on the Australian comedy of the same name, Wilfred features Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood as poor young Ryan, an average guy who’s having immense trouble just living. And then he gets into a surreal, twisted relationship with his attractive neighbor Jenna’s (Fiona Gubelmann, The Closer) dog Wilfred, which turns his world upside down, inside out, and numerous other convoluted ways. Jason Gann, the creator and star of the original show, reprises his canine role as the title character.

Over on USA Network, Suits stars Gabriel Macht (The Others) as corporate lawyer Harvey Specter. When he sets out to hire a new rising attorney to be his right-hand man, he ends up selecting Mike Ross, (Patrick J. Adams, Pretty Little Liars), a smart newcomer to the legal profession who lacks the most important thing of all — a law degree. Oops! Gina Torres of Alias (love her!) and Rick Hoffman (Samantha Who?) also star.

Sneak peeks at TV’s latest additions below. Wilfred precedes hilarious comedy Louie, which kicks off its second season at 10:30pm tonight, and Suits follows USA Network staple Burn Notice, which launches its fifth season tonight at 9pm.

Winter is about to get just a wee bit warmer with the return of tense FX drama Justified tonight, February 9.

The show’s sophomore season opens at 10pm ET with the 67-minute premiere “The Moonshine War.” While Raylan busies himself searching for a pervert with a thing for an underage girl, Boyd Crowder manages to escape the hospital where his gunshot injuries were treated. How long until the frenemies meet again?

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Justified‘s shiny new season below. If you can’t tune in to the premiere at 10pm, it repeats right afterward at 11:07pm. Gotta love basic cable and those multiple handy instant encores.

This is shaping up to be a pretty big week for basic-cable renewals. The latest series to score another season is the intense FX drama Sons of Anarchy, which the network picked up for a fourth go-round on October 7, just five episodes into the show’s current 13-episode third season.

In the official announcement, FX President and General Manager John Landgraf notes that “Sons of Anarchy is the most popular show FX has ever had, and the #1 series in basic cable for our key demographic. It is also one of the best, most original series on television.” Can’t argue with the last assessment.

Sons of Anarchy is presently averaging 4.9 million total viewers for each episode’s premiere, which helps make it the top scripted series on basic cable thus far in 2010 among viewers ages 18 to 49. As a result of that ratings success, fans will get to enjoy at least another 13 new installments during Season Four of the series.

Basic-cable network FX continues its history of airing edgier programming with the September 8 premiere of new crime dramedy Terriers.

The show kicks off at 10pm ET with the series pilot. During the episode, viewers meet central characters Hank Dolworth (Donal Logue of Life, The Knights of Prosperity, and Grounded for Life) and Britt Pollack (True Blood‘s Michael Raymond-James).

When former cop Hank decides to partner up with his best bud Britt as unlicensed detectives, the duo’s lack of maturity leads to various complications, some of which prove dangerous while they try to fight crime. The series has 13 hourlong episodes in its first season, currently scheduled to air Wednesdays on FX at 10pm ET.

Get an idea of what Terriers is all about in the following promo trailer. Definitely looks like must-see material to me.

Brooding new FX comedy Louie closes its successful freshman season with the two-episode “Gym” and “Night Out” finale on September 7, beginning at about 11:13pm ET (thank Sons of Anarchy‘s extended third-season premiere for the odd start time).

Star Louie C.K. follows up his attempts to get fit during “Gym” with an evening on the town during “Night Out.” I wonder just how much will go wrong in both cases.

Check out a promo for the double-episode finale below. If you weren’t already aware, FX wisely decided last month to renew Louie for a 13-episode second season. Works for me.

It’s been nine long months since the second season ended, but hard-edged FX drama Sons of Anarchy finally launches Season Three at 10pm ET on September 7 with the tersely titled, 73-minute premiere “So.”

The series picks up where it ended last December. As SAMCRO hunts down the idiot responsible for abducting Jax’s son, namely Cameron Hayes, Gemma continues running from the law after Stahl frames her for killing Edmond Hayes. Acting veteran Hal Holbrook (Evening Shade, Designing Women) appears as Gemma’s Alzheimer’s disease-stricken father Nate, which is a recurring role.

If you’re not already excited about the return of one of television’s best and most gripping — not to mention most violent — shows, maybe the following extended promo trailer will help get you appropriately worked up.

Long-running FX firefighter dramedy Rescue Me closes its sixth and next-to-last season on August 31 at 10pm ET with the finale “A.D.D.” I’m sure going to miss the extremely depressing plotlines and raunchy humor until the seventh and final season launches.

Coming up, viewers learn if Damien survived the on-the-job accident that occurred at the end of the previous episode, right after he flip-flopped on his earlier decision to quit and went out on a call with his colleagues.

Also, Tommy has difficulty managing his time, Mike and Sean achieve their goal of arranging a memorial for Pat Mahoney, and the firemen discover yet another method for picking up women.

Take a look at the promo trailer for “A.D.D.” below before checking out the full episode.
