The moment many Steven Spielberg fans have been waiting for is almost here: the two-hour premiere of his latest television show, Terra Nova at 8pm ET on Fox tonight, September 26.

The back-in-time adventure series stars Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) as the head of the Shannon family. He decides to take the members on a trip to the prehistoric era (Yikes!) in order to save their fellow humans from doom. All together now: Good luck with that.

Also debuting on The CW tonight at 9pm is the new Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) medical drama Hart of Dixie. She portrays young doctor Zoe Hart, who winds up plying her trade in a small Alabama town after she loses out on a much-wanted fellowship.

Sneak peeks at both freshmen series follow. Although they’re very different thematically, the shows sound mildly interesting for now.

Two new series starring popular actresses help their respective network kick off the Fall 2011 season properly tonight, September 20. First up is the Fox sitcom New Girl at 9pm ET, and the CBS crime drama Unforgettable follows at 10pm.

Zooey Deschanel (Tin Man), younger sister of Bones star Emily Deschanel, headlines the comedy as Jess Day. After Jess learns her no-good boyfriend has been stepping out on her, she moves in with three other dudes to get on with her life. Max Greenfield (Raising the Bar), Jake Johnson (FlashForward), and Lamorne Morris (The Middle) play her trio of roommates.

Over on the CBS drama, former Without a Trace star Poppy Montgomery portrays lead character Carrie Wells. The seasoned police detective happens to possess nearly perfect recall of past events, an awesome trait she uses to help solve difficult homicide cases. If only it would help her figure out who murdered her sister, though.

Sneak peeks at the two new shows in the videos below. Based on preliminary information, I think I’ll be watching both this fall.

If you remember news from way back in October 2010 regarding Fox preparing a possible spinoff of its hit crime drama Bones, then tonight, April 21, may be a very special night for you. A fresh episode of the series premieres at 9pm ET and it revolves around a case involving the principal characters in the potential new show.

Called “The Finder,” the installment features military veteran Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults, Happy Town), who has a unique ability to track down anything he wants to find. It also introduces his colleagues in detection, Ike Latulippe (Saffron Burrows, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) and law specialist Leo Knox (Michael Clarke Duncan, The Green Mile ).

Similar to Bones, the central Finder figure is based on the main character in a series of successful books. Whereas Temperance Brennan comes from the mind of author Kathy Reichs, Walter Sherman hails from the imagination of Richard Greener and various adventures in his The Locator series.

Take a quick look at the latest interesting characters in the Bones universe in the sneak peak below. Booth and Sherman clearly have a “quirky” relationship, which should make the episode an effective introduction to a promising new Fox production.

And, yes, it’s typically “offbeat,” à la successful NBC staples such as 30 Rock, The Office, and Parks & Recreation. Or so says Fox itself in the official description for the network’s latest new series Breaking In, which premieres tonight, April 6, at 9:30pm ET.

Even if viewers don’t find the sitcom particularly funny, many will be happy to welcome back some of the main cast members. They include missed familiar faces like Bret Harrison (Reaper), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), and Christian Slater (The Forgotten).

The show revolves around Contra Security, a high-tech security company with a staff of quirky oddballs willing to use uncommon and daring tactics to market their services. Slater plays OZ, the big boss, while Harrison has the role of recent college grad and longtime computer hacker Cameron, the newest addition to Contra’s group of employees.

I’ll be checking out Breaking In for the cast alone, so if the show actually manages to make me laugh regularly — unlike many of the so-called comedies on TV these days — that will be a bonus. Get an early look at the series below.

The second-season finale of entertaining Fox drama Human Target promises to deliver a wallop.

Premiering at 9pm ET tonight, February 9, the episode is titled “Marshall Pucci,” after Ilsa’s deceased husband. Apparently, Team Chance will finally identify the mysterious woman in the photo with him, while also getting to the bottom of what was going on between the two.

Somehow I don’t think it had anything to do with an affair, as Ilsa and everyone else on the show suspects. But it was definitely dangerous, judging by that big old gun Ilsa is wielding in the episode still above. Now all we viewers can do is hope for a fitting outcome and a Season Three renewal.

Frosh Fox sitcom Raising Hope — a deserving success — returns to kick off its first winter season at 9pm ET tonight with “Romeo and Romeo,” followed by the series premiere of new comedy Traffic Light at 9:30pm.

The latest episode of Raising Hope finds Jimmy making a sad realization: he hasn’t had the opportunity to just hang out with people his own age since the arrival of his daughter Hope. Intent on improving his situation, he tries to start a friendship with another single father he met recently, but his dependably challenging mother Virginia puts a crimp in that plan immediately. Former Everybody Hates Chris and Martin star Tichina Arnold guests, which can only mean lots of funny stuff is in store.

Fox’s newest sitcom Traffic Light focuses on three male friends and the various stages of their respective romantic relationships. David Denman (The Office), Nelson Franklin (The Office), and Kris Marshall (Sold) head the cast as buddies Mike, Adam, and Ethan, and Liza Lapira (Huff) and Aya Cash (Mercy) costar as Mike’s wife Lisa and Adam’s live-in girlfriend Callie, respectively. If Traffic Light turns out to be worth watching — unlike NBC’s seemingly similar yet totally unfunny buddy-relationship “comedy” Perfect Couples, for instance — Fox just might have a hit sitcom block on its hands. That would be cool.

And Tony Hale Returns

Former Arrested Development cast member Tony Hale just guest starred on the “Communication Breakdown” episode of Fox drama Human Target less than a month ago, and now he’s set to reprise his hilarious role as the title character Harry during tonight’s fresh “The Trouble with Harry” installment.

Harry makes his second appearance on the show when Chance’s latest assignment involves making sure a competing “security” specialist’s girlfriend doesn’t end up dead. Viewers will also get the immense pleasure of watching Ilsa take on her first field mission, a situation that’s bound to be both funny and moving at times as her hot-cold relationship with the guys continues to deepen. And if that’s not enough, actor Michael Masse (FlashForward, Revelations, 24) drops by, as well, to play Claypool, a creepy baddie I imagine since that’s his forte.

“The Trouble with Harry” is the next-to-last episode in Human Target‘s current second season. The February 9 season finale “Marshall Pucci” is all about Ilsa’s reportedly deceased husband, and it should be chock full of surprising revelations and tension now that we know he might have been doing something questionable behind Ilsa’s back. Fingers crossed for a major cliffhanger next week, closely followed by a deserved Season Three pickup.

Catch the premiere of “The Trouble with Harry” at 9pm ET tonight (February 2).

Mark your calendars, crime TV fans. Fox is almost set to premiere the promising Chitown-based drama The Chicago Code next Monday, February 7, at 9pm ET. The show’s very auspicious time slot puts it right after wry network staple House, so let’s hope the enviable scheduling isn’t all for naught.

Once you take a look at the accomplished cast, however, you’ll probably agree with me that there isn’t — or shouldn’t be — much to worry about when it comes to The Shield creator Shawn Ryan‘s latest project. Among the series regulars are Brotherhood alum Jason Clarke as respected and influential police veteran Jarek Wysocki; former The L Word star Jennifer Beals as Teresa Colvin, Jarek’s old partner and Chicago’s current first-ever female superintendent; Kidnapped standout Delroy Lindo as crooked local politician Ronin Gibbons; and Friday Night Lights grad Matt Lauria as relatively green detective Caleb Evers, Jarek’s present partner.

The series focuses on Jarek, Teresa, and assorted crime-fighting members of the Chicago Police Department as they attempt to solve a revolving roster of cases. And when they’re not busy doing that, there’s shady Ronin & Company to take down, too. Sounds like a plan worth unfolding over several seasons, particularly since the action all really takes place in Chicago, where the show is filmed. Score another point for authenticity.

If you haven’t already had a chance to watch a preview of The Chicago Code, or just want to do so again, an opportunity awaits in the two-minute “Welcome to Chicago” video below. Unless something unimaginable goes drastically wrong in the show’s execution post-premiere, it looks like I’m going to be adding one more favorite to my Must-See TV list, which is atypically puny these days. Thanks, Fox — I need that.

Fans — like me — of entertaining Fox series Human Target have lots to be happy about at the moment. The cause for joy is the generous network’s decision to schedule two new episodes of the action drama this week.

That’s the good news. The less-good news is that the episodes are not back-to-back, but in two different time slots spread out over two days that are two days apart. How do you say “momentum drain”? Maybe viewers should just be grateful for what they do get, though, especially in this age of quick cancellations and 13-or-fewer-episode “seasons.”

Coming up tonight, January 31, at 8pm ET is the Human Target episode called “Kill Bob.” Former Desperate Housewives actor Todd Grinnell guest stars as the titular Bob, a man who seeks Chance’s help to prevent his spook-y wife from taking him out permanently. Lauren German, most recently of ABC chiller Happy Town, plays Bob’s suspicious significant other.

Then on Wednesday, February 2, in Human Target‘s current regular time slot of 9pm ET, fans can catch the second latest new episode of the show dubbed “The Trouble with Harry.” The Season Two finale “Marshall Pucci” will follow on the same day and time the next week, after which fans will have to chill out until Fox announces whether or not we’ll be blessed with a third season. Yours truly certainly hopes we are.

Sneak a peek at the first fresh episode of Human Target this week in the preview clip below. A bonus comes in the form of behind-the-scenes commentary from executive producer Matt Miller. In addition, fib-centric drama Lie to Me closes its third season right after the episode at 9pm.
