‘Standoff’ Fans, Your Show Returns Tonight
Although How Much You’ll Still Remember After a Six-Month Hiatus Is a Mystery
Yep, you read that right. The last new episode of Fox’s canceled hostage-negotiator series Standoff aired six months ago, on December 12, to be exact. No wonder ABC, CBS, and NBC felt justified taking Lost, Jericho, and Heroes off the air for up to three months at a stretch—that was barely a blip compared to Fox’s behavior.
The hour to tune in for the series’ return with the episode “No Strings” is 9pm EST, at which time you’ll be regaled with a plot about suspicious containers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. Trust me—it will all play out much better than it sounds, if the Standoff installments from last year are any indication.
As far as I know, the series still features engaging actors Ron Livingston and Rosemarie DeWitt as FBI lovebirds, and Gina Torres, the wife of film actor Laurence Fishburne (sorry—I just had to throw that in because they seem to be an amazingly well-matched couple), as their boss.
If you enjoyed the show way back when, make sure to catch the final installments before Fox decides to stop burning them off, just the kind of thing that networks have a knack for doing these days. I plan to.
As a refresher, the official description of the series states:
STANDOFF centers on Matt Flannery and Emily Lehman, top-ranked FBI crisis negotiators who are forced to come clean about their secret relationship after it is revealed during a tense hostage standoff that they are sleeping together. Too valuable as a team to be split up, they are now under the watchful eye of their boss and their colleagues. STANDOFF combines the crackling romantic relationship at its core with intense drama and humor as these negotiators vow not to cross the line and let their personal feelings get in the way of the job.
Standoff currently airs Fridays on Fox at 9pm EST

Woohoo! So glad that someone is promoting Standoff, since FOX has been rather lax in that regard…
In case you don’t remember much after the 6 month hiatus, or you are new to the show, you can watch the first 11 episodes free online at http://www.myspace.com/standoff…I highly recommend “Partners in Crime!”
It’s about time that quality programming has returned to FOX TV. Standoff is one of those shows that no matter when you get to see it, you want to watch. The actors are more than eye catching, they have chemistry- and the writing is good. I haven’t seen a romance wrapped up in a drama done this well in a long time.
I hope FOX has to do some rethinking about their line up next year. This show is well worth saving.
Thanks for the MySpace link, Sahar, and I completely agree with you, Amy. In fact, watching the episode last night—which was superb and went in so many terrific, unexpected directions—I found myself wishing that someone at Fox would see the light and bring Standoff back as a mid-season replacement at least. That’s highly unlikely, I know, but we can all dream…
