Sneak Peek: Pushing Daisies

Fall 2007 Fantasy Dramedy Has Clout and Quirks Galore

Pushing Daisies/Comic-Con 2007 One of the most unusual and ambitious series slated to debut in the Fall 2007 season is no doubt ABC’s fantasy dramedy Pushing Daisies. Created, written, and executive produced by Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Star Trek: Voyager) and directed by the equally prolific film and television bigwig Barry Sonnenfeld (Karen Sisco, The Addams Family, Get Shorty, Men in Black), Pushing Daisies tells the fairytale of a quite unique man named Ned who possesses the quite unique ability to bring dead people and things back to life, simply by touching them, as well as to kill the people and things he has brought back to life by touching them again. Life, as it often does, goes in an unexpected direction, however, when Ned gives his childhood love Chuck a second chance at life one day. She then encourages him to put his amazing power to good use, while he tries to keep his hands to himself when it comes to his beloved.

Warner Bros., one of the production companies behind the program, has just released a new trailer for the series in honor of the July 28 Pushing Daisies special early pilot screening, Q&A panel, and signing session at the forthcoming San Diego Comic-Con convention from 9:15–10:15am. The interview portion will feature Fuller, Sonnenfeld, and members of the cast. And acknowledging main character Ned’s official profession as a baker, the first 300 people to enter the screening will get a free slice of pie; there’s no word on what flavor, though.

Lucky me, I received a copy of the latest trailer to share with readers. After watching it and marveling at both the vivid cinematography and crazy-whimsical plot, not to mention the A-list thespians helming the ship, I have to say that the series just got bumped up to my must-check-out list for next season.

Preliminarily slated to debut September 26 on ABC and to air Wednesdays at 8pm EST, Pushing Daisies stars Lee Pace as Ned, Anna Friel as Charlotte “Chuck” Charles, Chi McBride as Emerson Cod, Kristin Chenoweth as Olive, Swoosie Kurtz as Lily, and Jim Dale as the voice-over Narrator.
