Passings: Andy Hallett of ‘Angel’

August 4, 1975 – March 29, 2009

Andy Hallett

I was shocked last night when I checked my feed subscriptions and read a post from E! Online announcing the passing of Angel star Andy Hallett from heart failure on Sunday, March 29, in Los Angeles. The talented musician, actor, and Massachusetts native was only 33 years old.

Whedonverse fans know Hallett as the unforgettable red-eyed, green-skinned, horned demon from another dimension named Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, or simply Lorne the Host, on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff. Although it was his first and only major acting role, he played it with great and very entertaining command for the final four years of the series’ five seasons.

According to the source report, Hallett’s father Dave Hallett was at his side at the time of his death, and he’ll likely have a private funeral in his Cape Cod hometown this weekend. Sincerest condolences to his family.

Due to his considerable popularity, news of Hallett’s departure spread quickly, leading to numerous tributes to him all over the Web. Follow the links below to read some of the additional articles I’ve personally encountered, including the original announcement at E! Online.
