Oxygen Gives ‘Tori and Dean: Inn Love’ a Sophomore Season
Spelling and Hubby Good for Ten More Episodes
Defying all of those who considered its latest offering just another ho-hum, “who cares?” piece of reality mediocrity, Oxygen has renewed the rookie series Tori & Dean: Inn Love for another season of ten episodes, two more than the current first season includes. The show is the second reality series for 33-year-old celebrity actress Tori Spelling, who also headlined the one-season entry So NoTORIous on VH1 last spring. She and her husband, 40-year-old actor Dean McDermott, will stick around to help fill out Oxygen’s reality schedule, along with other series also favored by viewers in the 18–34 age bracket.
These youth-targeted programs include The Bad Girls Club, a concoction from Bunim-Murray Productions, the same company responsible for MTV’s pioneering The Real World, about a group of—you guessed it—bad girls living together à la—you guessed it again—Real World cast members. Oxygen obviously hopes such fare will help it successfully compete against trailblazer Lifetime, a fellow female-oriented basic-cable station that covets the same audience of young women who possess pursefuls of disposable dollars to attract advertisers.
In the debut season of Tori & Dean: Inn Love, the starring couple used Spelling’s inheritance money from her late father, famed television and movie producer Aaron Spelling, to purchase and open a California bed and breakfast. Viewers then had the opportunity to observe the novice entrepreneurs’ attempts to juggle their busy acting careers while running a business and preparing for the birth of their first child, Liam Aaron McDermott, born on March 13 of this year. The ten forthcoming episodes will follow the same basic storylines when they debut this summer, with the added presence of the couple’s infant son.
The first-season finale for Tori & Dean: Inn Love, “Let’s Go Have a Baby” (now I dare you to figure out what that one’s about), airs this Tuesday, May 8, at 10:30pm EST.
