Kid Nation Pulls Hard

Kid Nation

Wednesday night was a typically slow night for a day preceding a major holiday. But, we’ve still got winners and losers all the same, with CBS the big honcho in terms of total viewers and viewers between the ages of 18 to 49.

8pm: ABC’s Pushing Daisies led the first hour with 7.51 million viewers and a 2.3 rating/7 share for the 18–49 demographic. Its fellow CBS rookie Kid Nation did a very good job playing catch up, which resulted in a second-place finish of 7.29 million viewers and a 2.0/6. The first-season finale of NBC’s Phenomenon (6.17m, 1.9/6) was third, followed by repeats of the Fox sitcoms Back to You (5.35m, 1.5/5) and ‘Til Death (4.67m, 1.5/4) and a fresh America’s Next Top Model (3.62m, 1.6/5) on The CW.

9pm: In the next hour, CBS’ Criminal Minds (15.82m, 3.8/11) dominated. Next, the first hour of NBC’s two-episode Deal or No Deal (8.83m, 2.3/7) staged a coup on the ABC Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice (8.45m, 2.6/8), taking over Bionic Woman‘s normal time slot with an excellent showing for The Peacock in total viewers. Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (5.34m, 2.3/7) then easily beat a repeat of The CW’s Gossip Girl (1.26m, 0.6/2).

10pm: The night closed with a clear lead for CSI: NY (14.36m, 3.7/11) on CBS, a strong second-place finish for the final hour of Deal or No Deal (11.47m, 3.4/10) on NBC, and a typically average outcome for ABC’s splendid Dirty Sexy Money (6.52m, 2.1/6).

Overall: CBS (12.48m, 3.1/9) managed a double win for the second week in a row, while NBC (8.82m, 2.5/7), ABC (7.49m, 2.3/7), Fox (5.18m, 1.9/6), and The CW (2.44m, 1.1/3) all trailed.

DATA EXPLANATION: In the households figure 6.4/11, 6.4 is the household RATING that indicates what average percentage of U.S. households tuned into a particular show (6.4%), while 11 is the household SHARE that refers to what average percentage of televisions in use were tuned into a particular show (11%).
