November 2007 Sweeps – Day 5: Double the ‘Prison Break’ For You

Pro Football Scores, But Desperate Housewives Rules

Desperate Housewives

Sunday was prime time for primetime NFL football, but ABC’s four-year-old Sunday-night staple Desperate Housewives was ultimately the highest-rated show of the period, according to preliminary Nielsen data.

8pm: The final portion of the afternoon NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots crept into primetime and provided CBS with an immediate ratings boost (19.3/31) at 7pm. 60 Minutes (11.6/18) and the twelfth-season premiere of Amazing Race (8.5/13) then helped keep the Eye Network well-paced for first place in total viewers at 8pm. NBC’s Sunday Night Football featuring the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles (9.2/14) was second, ahead of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (7.9/12), Fox’s The Simpsons (5.4/8) and the 100th episode special for Family Guy (6.0/9), and The CW’s barely noticeable Life Is Wild (0.8/1).

9pm: ABC’s Desperate Housewives brought in the night’s largest numbers, an 11.9/18. NBC’s football coverage was second (9.7/15); CBS’ Cold Case, celebrating its 100th episode, as well, was third with an 8.8/14; Fox’s 100th Family Guy (6.1/9) and American Dad (4.3/6) were fourth, and The CW’s America’s Next Top Model was dead last (0.9/1).

10pm: NBC took first place with the continuing football game (8.4/15), closely trailed by Brothers & Sisters on ABC (8.3/15), and then Shark on CBS (7.4/14).

Overall: CBS won the night in total viewers (10.6/17), while NBC (5.5) took first place among viewers in the all-important 18–49 demographic. NBC followed CBS for total viewers with an 8.4/13, followed by ABC (8.2/13), Fox (5.3/8), and predictably fifth The CW (0.8/1). For TV watchers aged 18–49, CBS trailed NBC with a 4.8, just ahead of ABC (4.7) and Fox (4.4), and out of reach of The CW (0.4).
