November 2007 Sweeps – Day 24: ‘Battlestar Galactica: Razor’ Lands

The Movie of the Year Is Finally Here!

It is so about time, BSG fans, ain’t it? Tonight, the arrival of Battlestar Galactica: Razor on the small screen at last is the only Saturday Sweeps event worth noting.

The spectacular, exhilarating film recounts events aboard the Battlestar Pegasus immediately after the start of the second Cylon War. The destruction of the Twelve Colonies that the war precipitated took humans by complete surprise. Equally stunned by the sheer force and finality of the unexpected—or rather unimaginable—Cylon attack, Pegasus’ leader Admiral Helena Cain (a chilling Michelle Forbes) and others find themselves forced to make impossible but required decisions to survive and protect those remaining after the onslaught of death.

The extent of those complex choices is eventually made crystal clear when new crew member Kendra Shaw (Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen) arrives aboard the Pegasus and becomes ensnared in the military vessel’s dynamics. Her experiences then affect her actions later when she’s named the new Commanding Officer under Pegasus’ present commander, Lee “Apollo” Adama (Jamie Bamber).

Even if you’re not a current fan of the larger television series that Razor stems from, you’ll likely be able to appreciate the personal and professional conflicts that arise in such trying circumstances. And, for the action-minded, there’s also plenty of stuff blowing up in space to boot.

Anyone and everyone interested in good TV should check out Battlestar Galactica: Razor tonight at 9pm EST on the Sci Fi Channel.
