November 2007 Sweeps - Day 19: ‘Weeds’ Goes to Pot Tonight
Third-Season Finale Absolutely Disastrous
The third-season finale of Showtime’s hit sitcom Weeds was filmed before the series was renewed for a fourth season of thirteen episodes and before the destructive wildfires that swept through parts of California last month. As a result, several story lines in tonight’s episode “Go” seem oddly ill-timed, particularly the one about the rapidly approaching wildfire that will eventually force lead character and pot pusher Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) to abandon her home and community.
Fans can rest assured, though, that the Weeds plot was not intended to mirror or demean recent events. Just chalk this one up to some especially perspicacious writing for an extremely entertaining and well-written show.
Other Day 19 Events
- ABC
- THE BACHELOR—Season 11 comes to a close. And to think that I’ve never seen a single episode in all the time the show’s been around. [10:02pm EST]
- CBS
- TWO AND A HALF MEN—Both Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) and Jim Carrey’s girl Jenny McCarthy (Scary Movie 3) guest star. Guess which one Charlie’s gonna have a thing for. [9pm EST]
- RULES OF ENGAGEMENT—Do you know Rashida Jones’ Karen Filippelli, the third angle in the PB&J&K love triangle over on NBC’s The Office? Well, Rashida’s real-life mom Peggy Lipton (The Mod Squad, Twin Peaks) will be guest starring as main character Adam’s mom on Rules tonight. [9:30pm EST]
- The CW
- EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS—Third-season America’s Next Top Model winner Eva Marcelle guests as the distracting teacher of Chris’ younger brother Drew. Hmmm, I wonder what his young mind’s going to be on… [8pm EST]
- THE GAME—The CW’s last sitcom of the night has four times the guest-star power. Making appearances are retired NBA star (and Vanessa Williams of Ugly Betty’s ex) Rick Fox; respected media personality Tavis Smiley; street skateboarder Stevie Williams; and Ed, Veronica’s Closet, and The John Larroquette Show veteran Daryl “Chill” Mitchell. Excellent. [9:30pm EST]
- TBS
- ELLEN’S REALLY BIG SHOW—Popular comic and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres puts on an old-school variety show that features a house band led by Julia Roberts’ ex Lyle Lovett and performances by such huge talents as R&B diva Mary J. Blige and Las Vegas legend Wayne Newton, not to mention Barry Manilow and Sheryl Crow.
