November 2007 Sweeps - Day 10: ‘Cops’ Turns 700
CBS Is Unstoppable
There’s no surprises, here, folks. Once again, for the second night in a row, CBS led the ratings in both overall viewers and those aged 18 to 49 on Friday. ABC tried hard to play catch-up at 9pm EST, however, with its new personality-driven, female-centric crime procedural Women’s Murder Club pulling in front of the pack in terms of overall viewers. Still, CBS’ vampire detective drama Moonlight beat the cop show in the prized 18–49 demographic.
8pm: The highest-rated show of the night on both measures was CBS’ supernatural-tinged Ghost Whisperer (9.93 million viewers, 2.9/10 aged 18–49). NBC’s game show Deal or No Deal (9.57m, 2.1/7), ABC’s romantic dramedy Men in Trees (6.16m, 1.5/5), the first hour of The CW’s ever-popular Friday Night Smackdown (4.5m, 1.6/5), and Fox’s fading music competition The Next Great American Band (2.69m, 1.0/4) all followed.
9pm: ABC’s crime procedural Women’s Murder Club drew more total viewers than any other program (9.7m, 2.0/6). CBS’ gradually improving Moonlight was second (7.96m, 2.5/7), Fox’s music competition Don’t Forget the Lyrics third (6.3m, 2.3/7), and NBC’s Texas drama Friday Night Lights fourth (5.6m, 1.9/5), ahead of the final hour of The CW’s Smackdown.
10pm: CBS regained complete dominance in the final hour of the night, with the FBI procedural Numb3rs pulling in 9.91 million viewers total and a 2.8/9 for the 18–49 demographic. ABC’s 20/20 and NBC’s Las Vegas almost tied for the final two spots, with ABC just pulling ahead with a combined 7.04m and 1.9/6 to NBC’s 7.04m and 1.8/6.
Overall: CBS came out on top on critical measures, garnering 9.27m viewers all together and a 2.7/8 for those aged 18 to 49. Although ABC was second in overall viewers (7.63m), NBC did better when it came to the 18–49 demographic (1.9/6). NBC was third overall (7.4m), and ABC the same in terms of 18–49-year-old viewers (1.8/5). Another split was in effect for the fourth and fifth spots. While The CW dragged itself out of last place for overall viewers (4.82m), beating Fox’s 4.5m, it trailed in the 18–49 demographic. Its 1.5/4 failed to surpass Fox’s higher 1.6/5.
