Notable TV: Weekend (Jun 27 – Jun 28)
It’s Christmas in June!

Saturday | June 27
Doctor Who: The Next Doctor: The BBC’s American division presents the fourth Doctor Who Christmas special, during which David Tennant‘s tenth Doctor (pictured at right above) meets David Morrissey‘s character (pictured at left above), who claims to be the next Doctor mentioned in the title.
[BBC America, 75 minutes, 9pm]
Ellen’s Bigger, Longer and Wider Show: The mega popular entertainer welcomes magician David Blaine, recording artist Kanye West, and Nick Cannon performing DJ duties during her latest variety show.
[TBS, 60 minutes, 9pm]
Harper’s Island: The surviving wedding party members and island natives prepare to hunt down their hunter. It’s about time!
[Splash, CBS, 60 minutes, 9pm]
Eli Stone: In the second of four remaining episodes currently being burned off, Eli represents a fired news anchor against opposing counsel, namely Maggie, who’s much better in court than he realized.
[Mortal Combat, ABC, 60 minutes, 10pm]
Sunday | June 28
Valentine: Yet another summer burn-off, this time for a swiftly canceled dramedy about mythological Greek gods and goddesses living among and working their “charms” on humans. The remaining four episodes on the shelf are set to air, but I’m not sure how happy viewers will be that the returning show is replacing repeats of fan favorite Reaper.
[Summer Nights, The CW, 60 minutes, 7pm]
BET Awards ’09: Black Entertainment TV Awards producer Stephen Hill has informed the media this year’s edition of the annual ceremony will honor Michael Jackson and his incomparable contributions to music and pop culture.
[BET, 180 minutes, 8pm]
Comedy You Can Believe in With David Alan Grier: The In Living Color veteran hosts a taped comedy special featuring performances by funny people Bruce Bruce, Mark Curry, Jo Koy, Marina Franklin, and Aries Spears.
[TBS, 60 minutes, 10pm]
Hung: HBO premieres a truly original comedy: Thomas Jane (The Punisher) plays a down-and-almost-out man who ingeniously decides to use his biggest God-given asset to turn his life around. I sense another hit on the way for the pay channel. Folks just can’t resist the raunchy premium-cable stuff.
[Series Premiere, HBO, 30 minutes, 10pm]
