The Latest, Greatest Entertainment News Bullets
Much of the entertainment establishment is abuzz today with the revelation that Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry once attempted to commit suicide. The unfortunate and obviously unsuccessful event occurred in 1996, after the failure of her first marriage to baseball player David Justice. Such sad news, which came to light during Berry’s recent interview with Parade magazine due for publication this weekend, reinforces the fact that even intelligent, talented, beautiful, and wealthy people have to endure personal setbacks, just like everyone else.
U2 frontman Bono, better known at birth as Paul Hewson, is now Sir Bono to you and I—not. Although the Ireland native has gained the lengthy title Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire upon accepting an honorary knighthood, we’re not supposed to call him “Sir” because he’s not a British citizen. Whatever. Sir Bono rolls off the tongue well, and I’m sticking with it.
The Washington Post reports that if former Tennessee Republican Senator and current Law & Order star Fred Thompson (he’s the big guy that plays District Attorney Arthur Branch) runs for president of the USA in 2008, all episodes of the franchise that feature him may have to be pulled from the air. This would mean goodbye to the one or two dozen reruns of L&O that seem to air each and every day on basic cable in the United States. The issue is federal campaign laws that require all political candidates to receive equal TV time. I say thank you and good riddance because do we really need *that* much L&O in the first place? No, we do not.
Britain is going Bollywood with the launch of the four-day Indian Film Academy Awards scheduled to occur this June amid much hoopla. If you can’t make it to the United Kingdom’s Yorkshire in person for the event, perhaps your homeland will be among the 110 countries worldwide that organizers claim will receive broadcast footage.
