Michael J. Fox and Robin Williams Return to TV

New Sitcoms Debut

The Michael J. Fox Show

Sitcom lovers have lots to love during this first official week of the Fall 2013 season. In addition to all of the other comedies debuting this week, sitcom veterans Michael J. Fox (Spin City, Family Ties) and Robin Williams (Mork & Mindy) have new shows premiereing tonight, September 26.

Fox headlines the self-titled NBC newcomer The Michael J. Fox Show, in which he plays New York family man and former news anchor Mike Henry. Mike decides to return to his successful career after a five-year break to hang out with his family and deal with his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis.

Cast members include Breaking Bad‘s Betsy Brandt as Mike’s wife Annie, Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as his former boss Harris Green, and Katie Finneran (I Hate My Teenage Daughter), Juliette Goglia (Ugly Betty), Conor Romero (Person of Interest), and Jack Gore as additional members of the Henry clan. The Michael J. Fox Show bows with back-to-back episodes: the pilot at 9:01pm ET and “Neighbor” at 9:31pm, the second of which features guest star Tracy Pollan (Medium), Fox’s real-life wife.

Williams tops the cast of The Crazy Ones, a workplace sitcom revolving around his character Simon Roberts, a brilliant advertising executive with a penchant for really weird behavior. Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan favorite Sarah Michelle Gellar plays his more sedate daughter and colleague Sydney, and Hamish Linklater (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Amanda Setton (The Mindy Project), and James Wolk (Mad Men) portray additional employees at the prominent agency he owns.

The Crazy Ones holds a cushy 9:31pm premiere time slot sandwiched between mega popular CBS sitcoms The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. The established comedies kick off their respective seventh and eleventh seasons tonight, as well, Big Bang with a double-episode block starting at 8pm.

Also Returning on September 26: Parks & Recreation (Season 6, NBC, 8–9pm), Glee (Season 5, Fox, 9–10pm), Grey’s Anatomy (Season 10, ABC, 9–11pm), Elementary (Season 2, CBS, 10:01–11pm), and Parenthood (Season 5, NBC, 10:01–11pm).
