‘Lost’ Prep: Read Jorge Garcia’s Blog
Hurley Actor Dispenses Regular Island Dispatches
So, what did I do to celebrate the TV New Year? When stores finally priced them at an affordable $29.99, I finally bought the first three seasons of Lost and watched every episode in about two weeks. I’d seen half of the first season already, but then I somehow got caught up in other stuff, and my Lost viewing went up in smoke. What does this have to do with Hurley? Everything will make sense in a minute.
After I watched all three seasons of Lost, it was time to catch up on the Missing Pieces mobisodes, of course. One thing led to another, and one morning at about 3am I found myself about to sample the second installment, “The Adventures of Hurley and Frogurt,” which focuses on Hugo “Hurley” Reyes.
Ever thorough, I decided to first wander over to the Lostpedia wiki pages for Hurley and the actor who plays the popular character, Jorge Garcia. That page included a link to Garcia’s blog, which I just had to check out to see if he had anything to write worth reading. Once I arrived at Dispatches from the Island, the answer quickly became clear—he does.
Garcia’s blog is the real deal, as in it’s really written by the actor, who happens to have an engaging and down-to-earth personality so genuine it immediately resonates from his posts. He’s also very, very funny, in a way that fans have come to identify his Lost counterpart Hurley.
I read Garcia’s entire blog, comments included, in about 90 minutes, and I now urge all other Lost fans to check it out, too. An excellent starting point if you don’t want to jump in at the very beginning is the post “It was a Christmas Miracle.”
The piece is a Christmas story of sorts from the most recent holiday season, and it has all the required elements: food, fun, and horseradish (really). An added bonus is the ability to brush up on your Spanish while reading the blog since quite a few commenters use the language.
Hey—that worked for me. And don’t forget that the fourth season of Lost begins tonight on ABC at 9pm EST with the premiere “The Beginning of the End,” preceded by the one-hour, three-season clip-show special “Past, Present & Future” at 8pm.
