‘Kyle XY’ Good for Season Three
ABC Family Sticks with Hit Sci-Fi Series
When ABC decided in July not to continue airing same-week Friday-night repeats of its sister channel ABC Family’s hit sophomore sci-fi series Kyle XY like it did the previous year, I instantly (and understandably) became concerned that the show’s low ratings during the rebroadcasts probably meant it wouldn’t make it to a third season. Well, my concern was all for nothing because ABC Family announced on October 5 that the always intriguing series will indeed return for Round #3.
Kyle XY is currently on hiatus between the front and back ends of a split season, which is common on basic cable. According to Variety, during its present season, the show was not only the second most popular basic-cable program in its time slot among female teenagers, but it enjoyed an 8% ratings increase in the 18–34 demographic. Nice job!
The series, which stars Matt Dallas as an uncommonly intelligent teenage boy, returns in 2008 to wrap up its second season, although ABC Family has not yet released a premiere date. Fans can breathe easier all the same knowing that yet another captivating season waits in the wings.
