The Knights of Prosperity: Declining Fortunes
ABC Not So Generous to Its Latest Sitcom
Despite all of the previous buzz about the promising new sitcom with the cool premise—robbing Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger—it looks like The Knights of Prosperity isn’t going to be around long enough to fully implement the big heist. According to E! Online’s Mistress of Entertainment Gossip, Kristin Vetch, word has it that “ABC told Knights’ writing staff today [January 26] that the comedy would not be picked up for the ‘back nine’ episodes, which basically means they’re planning to shut it down after the current 13-episode commitment.”
Kristin further elaborates that although ABC has not publicly confirmed cancellation, the network has made plans for a “time-slot swap” with According to Jim, currently in its sixth season. The Futon Critic indicates that this programming change is effective next week. I’m not sure exactly how much the switch is supposed to accomplish, though, given that the two series will still air back-to-back, just in reverse order. I guess that’s why I would make a lousy network executive.
In any case, I followed The Knights of Prosperity from the very first episode. Although I found the premiere refreshing and funny, subsequent installments grew increasingly less funny and sometimes a tad too clichéd and stale. No matter what, however, the show has always been a trillion times better than the rancid, WTF?!, alleged comedy that followed it, In Case of Emergency. I’m shocked ABC hasn’t taken that one all the way off the schedule yet because I definitely thought it would go down the drain long before Knights.
