Time-Tripping Back to the Cold War
Basic-cable network FX is on a roll. Just one week after the second-season finale of its successful spook show American Horror Story, the network is debuting its latest quirky original series with a United States-centric word in the title, The Americans.
Also featuring spooks, but of a quite different sort, The Americans stars Felicity fan favorite Keri Russell and Brothers & Sisters alum Matthew Rhys as married Russian spies pretending to be suburban Americans in the 1980s at the tail end of the Cold War era. The couple live undercover in Washington, D.C., as Elizabeth and Phillip Jennings, along with their real 10-year-old son Henry (Keidrich Sellati) and real 13-year-old daughter Paige (Holly Taylor). If only the clueless kiddies knew how cool — and dangerous — their parents really are, arranged marriage or not.
As Elizabeth and Phillip go about their spying business and family lives, a new resident of the neighborhood, FBI Agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich of White Collar) arrives to complicate their world even more. The worst part? Not only does Stan work for the U.S. government, but he and his partner Chris Amador (Maximiliano Hernández of the late Ringer) are members of a team that hunts down secret agents from other countries who pretend to be Americans while living stateside. Uh-oh. Good times surely await viewers.
Catch the extended 97-minute pilot episode of The Americans tonight, January 30, at 10pm ET. If you can’t, encores will air immediately after the premiere at 11:37pm and 1:14am.
The Americans will air Wednesdays on FX at 10pm ET
