It’s Night of the Top-Notch Guest Stars On TV Tonight
First-Run Episodes Brimming with Acting Talent
Well, it isn’t May sweeps yet, that notorious time of the TV year when the networks pull out all of the stops and all of the stunning guest stars in an attempt to lure viewers their way, but you wouldn’t be able to tell, what with all the stellar star power showing up on assorted shows’ fresh episodes tonight.
ER, NBC’s recently resurgent medical staple, has Prison Break warden Stacy Keach, who returns to portray the booze-loving father of John Stamos’ Doctor Tony Gates, in addition to disconcerting Borat sidekick Ken Davitian as an Armenian good Samaritan (“Family Business”/NBC/10:01pm EST).
Grey’s Anatomy, staging the night’s second double coup, has not only Elizabeth Reaser, costar of last year’s TNT paramedic failure Saved, reprising her role as the unidentified Jane Doe, but also Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated original brat packer Mare Winningham returning to play perpetual whiner Meredith’s stepmomma (“Time After Time”/ABC/9pm EST).
My Name Is Earl, staying perfectly in quirky character, has snide Saturday Night Live alum Norm MacDonald as a rare rich man in trailer-park country (“Two Balls, Two Strikes”/NBC/8pm EST).
Shark, the eye network’s latest breakout hit, has alien Species girl Natasha Henstridge as an arctic blast from the title character’s past (“Fall From Grace”/CBS/10pm EST).
Smallville, as I’ve already mentioned twice in this here blog, has the one and only Wonder Woman, smashing Lynda Carter, who lands in farm country to play the estranged mother of resident smarty-pants Chloe Sullivan (“Progeny”/The CW/8pm EST).
Supernatural, one of the best shamefully underrated shows on the tube today, has the magnificent Gary Cole of TNT’s inexplicably canceled 2005 ratings success Wanted, exquisitely cast as a horror-film star (“Hollywood Babylon”/The CW/9pm EST).
Ugly Betty has leggy Croatian-American Ivana Milicevic, most recently seen as villain Le Chiffre’s significant other Valenka in the James Bond hit Casino Royale, who drops by to play yet another one of the many models who schlep throw the show each episode (“Punch Out”/ABC/8pm EST).
