‘Heroes’ Trumps ‘Lost’ and Adds Kristen Bell
‘Veronica Mars’ Star Joins the Superhero Juggernaut This Fall
I’ll keep it short and sweet since I’m sure this will only be the gazillionth article you’ll come across today on the subject. Kristen Bell, the star of The CW’s perpetually underwatched and therefore canceled gem Veronica Mars, will have a recurring story arc in the forthcoming second season of NBC’s Heroes, according to Variety. This news drops just days after many believed—or rather hoped—that Bell would join ABC’s signature hit series Lost for a multiepsiode role when its abbreviated fourth season gets underway in February 2008. The heavily in-demand actress apparently nixed that deal, however, because she reportedly didn’t want to relocate to Hawaii. If only I had dilemmas like that.
In any case, ABC’s failure to snare the actress must have provided the necessary cue for Heroes‘ bloodthirsty casting vultures, who, not content with their well-publicized success signing just about every other thespian in television and film history for one role or another next season, are continuing on their quest to ensure that not a single actor will be left available to appear on any other series this year. They obviously swooped down and snatched Bell up by making her an offer she couldn’t refuse: the opportunity to play a character named Elle, “described as a sexy, mysterious young lady who has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire.”
Universal Media Studios clarified the marvelousness of the casting development by noting that “landing Bell wasn’t easy [because] many studios (were) chasing her in both film and TV.” And no less than series creator and executive producer Tim Kring admits that the Heroes camp bent over backwards to find “a way to jump into a small window in (Bell’s) schedule.”
Bell’s appearance begins in October with her character Elle “committing a serious crime, though it’s unclear whether she’s good or bad.” I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve got all ten of my digits crossed for superbad.
