‘Heroes’ Season-One DVD Artwork

Seven-Disc Set Goes Manga in the Menus

Heroes DVD Menu Just a little over a month and a half before the official August 28 street date, NBC Universal Television has released images of the menus featured in the hit series Heroes‘ first ever DVD set, viewable at TVShowsOnDVD in all of their glory (the individual images together reveal everything on the DVDs). Fans of the show will instantly recognize the colorful and distinctive artwork as some of the more memorable paintings that the prescient artist Isaac Mendez (played by Santiago Cabrera) created, before Sylar gave him a brain job, of course. The actual person behind the eye-catching pieces is award-winning comic-book artist Tim Sale.

Equally jaw-dropping are the oodles and oodles of Bonus Features that purchasers will have access to, aside from the customary Deleted and Extended Scenes (which number a whopping 50 in this case) and Audio Commentary by sundry cast and crew members, as well as series creator Tim Kring. They include:

Unaired Pilot
The Tim Kring Cut, with Audio Commentary by Kring
A full 73 uninterrupted minutes of the original, unaired, extended pilot episode, as Heroes‘ creator Tim Kring first envisioned it, with a character never seen before

The Making of Heroes
From concept to pop culture phenomenon, a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest new series on television

Special Effects
The secrets behind the eye-popping visuals that give the heroes their amazing powers

The Stunts
A backstage look at the show’s hair-raising stunts

Mind Reader
Matt Parkman’s mind reading abilities reveal your inner hero with a series of simple tests

Profile of Artist Tim Sale
A look at the Eisner Award-winning comic-book artist (Spiderman, Batman, Daredevil) behind much of the Manga-influenced artwork used in the show

The Score
Go behind the scenes with Wendy Melvin and Lisa Coleman (of Prince’s The Revolution) as they create their ASCAP Award-winning musical score

The seven-disc set includes all 23 episodes of the breakout series’ first season, too. And believe me—when the inevitable slim set is released in the future, you’ll be glad you shelled out the money for this Collector’s Edition early on.
