Happy 100th Episode, ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Family Guy’
Crime Drama and Cartoon Celebrate a Milestone Tonight
Two long-running series will experience a pivotal event in the life cycle of any TV show worth its salt. Both CBS’ engaging flashback police procedural Cold Case and Fox’s popular animated half-hour Family Guy have made it to episode Number 100.
Why should fans of either series care? Well, in days gone by, having that number of installments under one’s belt was the threshold for networks’ ability to profitably sell syndication rights to a series. That standard holds no more—for instance, basic cable’s TNT paid approximately $1.4 million per episode in Fall 2004 for the right to air Cold Case repeats and has been syndicating the show since its third season in Fall 2005, when the drama had only 46 broadcast episodes—but 100 is still a pretty big, nice, round number capable of eliciting lots of Oohs and Aahs.
Tonight’s Cold Case, “World’s End,” features guest stars Ralph Waite of The Waltons, Len Lesser of Seinfeld, and Bellamy Young of both Dirty Sexy Money and Private Practice in a tale that rewinds time all the way to 1938. Back then, a woman oddly disappeared on the same night of Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds radio broadcast and was later found murdered.
Family Guy will mark today’s occasion with the highlights tribute “Family Guy 100th Episode Special” at 8:30pm EST, followed at 9pm by the aptly titled “Stewie Kills Lois,” in which Brian dares Stewie to carry out his stated intentions to do in Lois after she leaves him behind at home to go on vacation.
