‘Gossip Girl’ Gets Full Season

Teen Soap’s Immediate Future Secured

Gossip Girl The Futon Critic broke the unofficial news this morning and Variety officially confirmed it this afternoon—The CW has awarded this fall’s first full-season pickup to the deserving teen sudser Gossip Girl.

Yes, as always, I’m behind on my reviews, but I have been checking out all of the new fall series. Although I’ve already decided that Gossip Girl will not make my must-see list, what I’ve watched, I’ve enjoyed for the most part.

The series is brought to us by The O.C. and Chuck executive producer Josh Schwartz with The O.C. writer Stephanie Savage and is based on a series of bestselling young adult books of the same name by Cecily Von Ziegesar. It stars The Sisterhood of the Traveling PantsBlake Lively as burgeoning Manhattan socialite and high school it-girl Serena van der Woodsen, who returns to her upper-class environs after a year away at boarding school to learn that her perch at the top of the social hierarchy is not ironclad, for very, very good reason.

If you’re a fan of either nighttime soaps filled with oodles of backstabbing or young-adult fare filled with oodles of conniving, check out Gossip Girl, even if you haven’t seen a single episode or read a single one of the books yet. After all, with today’s full-season pickup and The CW’s regular Sunday-night encores at 6pm EST, you’ve got about 38 chances (19 remaining episodes, plus twice weekly broadcasts) left to catch up with the storyline.
