Just Another “David”

Tonight’s TV features the first-season finale of TNT’s fun and thrilling original caper dramedy Leverage, which means I have to say goodbye to one of my current favorite shows before I’m ready. What in the world will I do on Tuesday nights at 10pm now?

The scheduled episode, “The Second David Job,” is the conclusion of last week’s “The First David Job” about Team Leverage’s attempts to steal two priceless Michelangelo prototypes for the artist’s renowned statue David.

Both installments feature guest star Kevin Tighe (Lost, Murder One, Emergency!) as Ian Blackpoole, the shady insurance company CEO who refused Nathan Ford’s medical claim for his son in order to save money. That act directly contributed to the child’s death, which in turn directly influenced Nate’s decision to form Leverage with Sophie, Eliot, Alec, and Parker later.

And, let’s not forget Nate’s perpetual rival Jim Sterling (Battlestar Galactica‘s Mark Sheppard), who inconveniently showed up at exactly the wrong time and further complicated Team Leverage’s plans to help Nate in his quest for vengeance. So, will the gang manage to get righteous payback for the boss, or will the members’ efforts end up being a bust that could potentially leave them worse off than they were before they hooked up with another?

Things weren’t looking so good at the end of “The First David Job,” when the group was forced to disperse after being publicly outed. Still, I have faith they can work another miracle like the impossible cons they’ve pulled off episode after episode this season.

No matter how the finale ends — good or bad — we fans will get to enjoy more Leverage during its already announced second season of 15 episodes, two more than the present season. Thank goodness TNT executives recognize a deserving hit when they see one.

Sneak a peek at the first-season finale “The Second David Job” below and don’t forget to tune in for the entire episode tonight. It’s hard to imagine how any viewer would regret it.
