Final Two ‘Drive’ Episodes to Debut Online
The Current Alleged Date is July 16
If I were Tim Minear—executive producer and co-writer of the prematurely canceled, imaginative series Angel, Firefly, Wonderfalls, and now Drive, all of which landed at Fox through some sort of grand cosmic error or joke—I would never work with the fickle Fox network ever again, at least if I wanted my shows to have a decent chance of surviving. After scheduling and then yanking two airdates for the final two episodes of the axed midseason action drama Drive, the network allegedly plans to premiere them online starting next Monday, according to TV Guide.
The Web site for fans to keep their eyes on is the Fox on Demand domain for Drive located at www.myspace.com/driveonfox. It uses a nifty video streaming platform called the Full Throttle Player that claims to deliver high-definition quality video requiring no buffering. If you’ve ever watched TV shows via online streaming before, then you’ll probably appreciate what a spectacular feature that is.
Unfortunately, however, the Fox people don’t seem too thorough when it comes to site maintenance over there at MySpace. The page for The Loop, a hilarious (at least to me) half-hour sitcom that had its series finale on July 1, still indicates that the comedy is returning on June 10. Glitches like this make it easier to understand why Fox can’t even hang onto good shows when it gets them—somebody’s clearly asleep at the wheel, if you know what I mean.
