Dreaded Confirmed News: ‘Battlestar Galactica’ to End After Upcoming Fourth Season
Critically Acclaimed Series’ Stars Deliver the Bombshell Themselves
At the 33rd Annual Saturn Awards held in California on Thursday, May 10, Battlestar Galactica stars Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama) and Katee Sackhoff (Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace) both revealed that the fourth season of Sci Fi Channel’s spectacular adaptation of the cheesy-pleasy 1978–79 series will be the end of the road for the show. When film site The IESB questioned Olmos about the fourth season scheduled to premiere in January 2008, the actor frankly replied, “This will probably be the most extraordinary season of Battlestar, it’s the final season so, it’s definitely going to be the most vicious.”
Olmos went on to state that he has no knowledge of a rumored spinoff series focused on the planet Caprica, while Sackhoff later confirmed Olmos’ claims, adding that she believes “part of the problem is that [Battlestar Galactica is] an expensive show” that doesn’t “have the viewership that a great show should get.”
Wow. I think I share the interviewer’s sentiments that it’s now time for all Battlestar fans to just “go inside and cry.” At least, however, there’s a little comfort in knowing that Sackhoff has already been cast in another small-screen adaptation of a 1970s science-fiction series with a promising future—if only its executed properly—NBC’s recently picked up remake of The Bionic Woman.
