Done Deals: Quinto and Nimoy in Next ‘Star Trek’ Flick
Sometimes the Buzz Is Right
As predicted, Zachary Quinto, the actor who portrays brain-loving Heroes villain Sylar, will play a young Spock in the next installment of the Star Trek film franchise. He is expected to continue his Heroes work, as well, despite this new ultra high-profile gig. In addition, the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, will reprise his role, playing the older version of the iconic pointy-eared character.
Both Quinto and Nimoy joined director J.J. Abrams onstage Thursday at Comic-Con 2007, currently underway in San Diego, where the casting news was officially announced for the first time. The eleventh Star Trek film is preliminarily scheduled for release around Christmas 2008, by which time I assume the role of Captain Kirk will have been cast, too (that was a lame joke, by the way).
