‘Dexter’ Has a Date with CBS on Sunday
Will It Kill in the Ratings, Too?
Showtime’s much-lauded serial-killer series Dexter arrives on CBS this Sunday night at 10pm EST. I’m among the many people who are justifiably excited about the event, but I’ll be handling my eagerness to see Michael C. Hall play the title character, Florida sociopath and forensic analyst Dexter Morgan, a bit differently.
Whenever a premium-cable show airs on a basic-cable or broadcast network, there’s always concern about how much footage will get edited out to make the content safe for cheap and/or free TV. Such editing is standard with past series that have made the jump, like HBO’s Sex in the City, Six Feet Under, and The Sopranos. That’s why I don’t watch any of them off of their original network — I feel like I’m not getting the “real” show if it’s watered down not to offend censors.
As a result, when Dexter airs on CBS starting Sunday, I’ll be firing up my old DVD player to watch the unadulterated original version instead. Sure, I’m going to stay in synch with the rest of the public by checking out the same episode that CBS broadcasts. But, since I want all of the goods and gore, I’ll have to improvise a bit.
If you aren’t excited yet about Dexter‘s arrival on The Eye Network, check out the following Season One featurette, the first of several I’ll be posting over the weekend. Who can possibly withstand all of that drama?
