Dancing with the Stars: Shandi Shed Second

Bruno’s Ken and Barbie Booted in the Latest Elimination Round

Shandi Finnessey/Brian Fortuna In results that likely shocked no one except for the rapidly dwindling number of female celebrities still in play, Shandi Finnessey became the second amateur dancer told to go home on Dancing with the Stars last night. Shandi was just as humble and gracious to her fellow competitors as Paulina was last week when it was time to say goodbye. She acknowledged the hard work and camaraderie of all of the participants, making sure to recognize the efforts of her partner Brian, as well. According to the Dancing Web site, Brian has been the top dance instructor in North America for two years running. That means he’s probably not crying his eyes out too hard over this early exit his first time around, and we’ll still see more of him in the pro routines during future weekly results shows.

Other highlights from the overstuffed hour (I recorded the show and fast-forwarded through the numbers by music artists Ciara and Josh Groban, slowing down just a bit to watch the accompanying dance routines) included AOR rockers Survivor performing their 1980s classic “Eye of the Tiger,” coupled with eight of the celebrities’ partners dancing a surprisingly harmonious Paso Doble.

Jimmy Kimmel and his parking lot security guard Guillermo dropped by a second time via the “Dance Along at Home with Jimmy Kimmel” video segment to teach viewers a little more about the Paso Doble. Describing it as the dance of the matador and the bullfighter, the talk show host claimed the style has 27 steps, such as snap, crackle, and pop. Yeah, right.

Even better were clairvoyant Dougall Fraser, who wants us to believe he can see colorful energy around humans that indicates their strengths and weaknesses, and numerologist Glynis McCants, who says that names and birth dates yield six numbers that tell her all about people. Fraser has already earned his spot in Dancing history for identifying a back problem that John Ratzenberger didn’t even know he has. Explaining who the winning celebrity will likely be, McCants chose Laila Ali because the boxer is the only competitor whose numbers match those of all three previous winners, while Fraser fingered Ian Ziering due to the purple energy that surrounds him just like heads of state and CEOs, as well as the “amazing electric green energy” around Cheryl. Now everything makes utterly perfect sense.
