Are Vehicular Accidents the Newest Celebrity Craze?
This is so not funny, I’m not even going to try to make any sly or witty remarks here. Among the biggest celeb news stories in the past few days, there have been two items about car crashes involving a pair of more-or-less high-profile entertainers—first R&B singer Brandy Norwood (better known as just Brandy) and then Nicole Kidman.
The first fatal accident with Brandy at the wheel occurred December 30 in California when she somehow failed to notice that traffic was slowing down in front of her. The Grammy winner wound up hitting the closest car, the driver of which, 38-year-old wife and mother Awatef Aboudihaj, died later at the hospital after her car hit both another car and the center divider, and was then struck again by an additional car. An uninjured Brandy was not arrested because law enforcement determined she was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
The second nonfatal accident involving Nicole Kidman was the result of a January 25 mishap on the California set of her latest movie, a remake of the 1956 classic sci-fi thriller Invasion of the Body Snatchers called simply The Invasion. Apparently, a rig crashed after it experienced trouble turning while towing the car that Kidman was in during the filming of a stunt. The Academy Award-winning actress is reportedly okay, although a few stuntmen and crew members suffered minor injuries.
Both of theses incidents make me irrationally glad that I don’t drive or reside in California.
