CBS Second Network to Alter Schedule out of Sensitivity to Virginia Tech Tragedy After Pulling Next ‘Criminal Minds’

Next Week’s Originally Scheduled Criminal Minds Episode Now on the Shelf

Criminal Minds Just two days after Fox network made the wise decision to not air last Wednesday’s previously scheduled episode of the popular crime procedural Bones because the main plot about a murder on a college campus followed to close on the heels of Monday’s Virginia Tech tragedy, CBS did the same Thursday with next Wednesday’s originally scheduled episode of the hit FBI procedural Criminal Minds. The installment formerly slated to air on April 25, “Doubt,” revolves around an investigation into the deaths of several women at a “small Midwestern college” and the complications that arise when the killings continue even after the profiler team arrests the prime suspect. CBS has elected to replace this episode with “Jones,” a less controversial repeat from February 28 concerning the reemergence of a New Orleans serial killer who targets men more than a year following Hurricane Katrina.

Both Fox and CBS have taken the kind of respectful action that I bet NBC, in hindsight, wishes it had with regards to the material that Monday’s perpetrator sent the network, which NBC subsequently copied before handing it over to authorities and then disseminated to other media outlets. May television executives continue to demonstrate more of such consideration and caution and less of the industry’s entrenched enthusiasm for financial gain and “scooping” as the world comes to grips with what happened.
