SECTIONS: Canceled, The Nine

Catch ‘The Nine’ at Ten

Canceled ABC Series Is Off Hiatus and Back on TV

The Nine Following the end of summer series Traveler‘s too-brief run, ABC is returning its much-ballyhooed yet quickly shelved Fall 2006 bank-heist drama The Nine to the tube tonight. “Turning Point,” the eighth of thirteen total episodes produced, will find all but one of the former hostages summoned to the District Attorney’s office for yet more probing Q&As regarding the security guard murdered during the deadly failed robbery attempt.

The previous episode of the series, “Outsiders,” aired on November 22. It was memorable not only for being the final normally scheduled broadcast before the threat of cancellation became real, but for also featuring a choice guest cast that included Sasha Alexander (NCIS), Bill Smitrovich (The Practice), and JoBeth Williams (Poltergeist).

If you’re a fan, enjoy this promised consecutive burn off of the remaining six episodes in the series while you can, but please, keep your foodstuff to yourself. There’s no chance in hell that the show will get renewed in any shape or form since regulars Tim Daly, Dana Davis, Chi McBride, and Kim Raver have all lined up exceedingly high-profile TV gigs for next season or midseason (Private Practice, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, and Lipstick Jungle, respectively).

The Nine is scheduled to conclude on September 5 with the thirteenth episode, the series finale “Confessions,” which will not wrap up all of the ongoing preceding storylines. Thespians Lourdes Benedicto, John Billingsley, Jessica Collins, Camille Guaty, Scott Wolf, and Owain Yeoman are also regular members of the ensemble cast.
