‘Business Nation’ Presents…

Business Newsmagazine Serves Up Another Collection of Intriguing Reports

Business Nation Peabody-winning CNBC market analyst David Faber is probably most famous to those who casually know of him as the newsperson who unearthed the Enron accounting fraud scandal earlier in the decade. When CNBC’s monthly investment newsmagazine Business Nation debuted in January 2007, Faber was the individual that executives wisely chose to helm the program. The show is a mixture of in-depth, long-form investigative reports undertaken by leading correspondents aimed at exploring the complexities of some of the most noteworthy practices and trends present in the current business world.

Tonight’s installment includes examinations of three pertinent issues. In the segment “Prescriptions…and Payoffs?,” Faber himself looks into brand-name drug manufacturers and their role in maintaining high consumer drug prices due to their financed efforts to rid the market of generic alternatives. Emmy winner Tyler Mathisen, host of CNBC’s weekly High Net Worth series on accruing and managing wealth, contributes an uplifting story about the rise of an Atlanta, Georgia, neighborhood in “Miracle at East Lake.” And Peabody recipient Jane Wells‘ “Legally Challenged” reports on the disturbing emergence of a disability-lawsuit movement in California in which thousands are suing business owners over disability access under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The latest installment of Business Nation repeats early the next morning, Friday, at 1am. [OnTV Thursday, 8 March 2007, CNBC, 10pm EST]

Other Good Stuff on TV Tonight:
  • 30 Rock—THE FIGHTING IRISH: Funnyman and Broadway star Nathan Lane checks in briefly to play Jack’s (Alec Baldwin) mopey brother. Now that should be fun. [NBC/9:31]
  • Elvis Lives: The 25th Anniversary Concert: In a program that sounds downright scary (at least to me), technology is used to show Elvis Presley “performing” with his band at a 2002 Memphis concert, 25 years after the King of Rock ‘n Roll’s death. Yikes. [PBS/9:30*]
  • Last Stand of the 300: Do you plan on checking out the new flick 300 after it opens tomorrow? This documentary provides a whole lot of factual backstory to the fictional film, both based on the historical last stand between a minuscule group of indomitable Spartan Greek warriors and a daunting army of trained Persians at Thermopylae’s narrow pass in 480 BC Greece. [History Channel/9:00]
  • Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel: Segments feature chats with new Chicago Cubs manager Lou Pinella and New York Islanders head coach Ted Nolan, as well as an overview of the University of Wisconsin’s men’s basketball team. [HBO/8:00]
