Blue Man Group Exposed
Go Behind the Scenes with the Ultra Popular Trio
I bet when Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink first formed Blue Man Group in New York two decades ago, they had no idea what a huge cultural and artistic phenomenon they would become. It’s now a whole new century, yet their popularity seems to show no signs of waning. In fact, the trio’s presence is unmistakable wherever they go, what with the immutable muteness, bright blue painted skin, shiny bald heads (an effect created with latex caps, by the way), and perpetual stark black attire.
How many times have people wondered how in the world the three came up with such arrestingly eccentric gimmicks? Well, for anyone who has, PBS is offering the opportunity tonight to find out everything you need to know about Blue Man Group’s genesis, evolution, and creative processes, all under the guidance of the creators themselves, who serve as hosts of the documentary Blue Man Group: Inside the Tube at 7:30pm EST*. Diehard fans will be particularly psyched to know that the broadcast comes complete with footage from the ensemble’s mesmerizing live shows, as I most definitely am.
Other Good Stuff on TV Tonight:
- 48 Hours Mystery—MURDER ON THE CAPE: Susan Spencer reports on the perplexing case of Christa Worthington, a 46-year-old fashion writer whose brutal Cape Cod rape and murder wreaked havoc on the Massachusetts community. [CBS/10:00]
- College Hill: Season 4 begins with introductions to the latest crop of eight students to be followed while they live, learn, and love at the University of the Virgin Islands. The setting alone is enough to make me want to go back to college. How come I didn’t think of applying to any island locales? [BET/10:00 & 10:30]
- Gilmore Girls—GILMORE GIRLS ONLY: Kathy Baker of Picket Fences guest stars. Do you really need another reason to watch? [The CW/8:00]
- House—HALF-WIT: House is back in the house with musician Dave Matthews playing a patient and House about to become one perhaps (Say what?!) at a Boston hospital. [Fox/9:00]
- Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll: I’m going to check out the debut of this new reality series if only to laugh a little and never have to watch it again. I imagine I’ll be pretty darn surprised then if the burlesque pop group Pussycat Dolls manages to actually entertain me—instead of bore or repulse me—during the quest to find the next member. [The CW/9:00]
- Watch Over Me—THE GORGON’S HEAD: If you’re a fan of MyNetworkTV’s telenovela format, you’d better watch what you can while you can. The network recently announced that dismal ratings inspired a new programming schedule that includes nary a single weeknightly soap. Tonight’s episode is the series finale. [MyNet/9:00]
- Wicked Wicked Games—PARTING SHOTS: See comments for Watch Over Me. Ditto. [MyNet/8:00]
