‘Battlestar Galactica’ Fans, Rejoice!

…But Stargate Fans Maybe Not So Much

Battlestar Galactica Über Stargate fansite GateWorld recently reported a very viable rumor (that is, a network exec allegedly copped to knowledge of the details in public, in front of real live people) indicating the Sci Fi Channel may soon alter its schedule in order to present original programming year round.

What does this have to do with Battlestar Galactica and Stargate fans? Well, most importantly, the changes proposed thus far would accommodate a groundbreaking full-season run of Battlestar Galactica starting this October.

In other words, instead of one of those annoying, truncated, two-part, ten- or eleven-episode seasons that audiences have become accustomed to with the advent of successful original programming on basic cable, Sci Fi may tinker with the broadcast dates for Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis in order to make room for airing all twenty episodes of Battlestar Galactica‘s third season without interruption.

Such a move would mean that the two Stargates, whose current half-seasons will end in September, would not resume the second halves in mid-January as in previous years, but in March.

This development is great news for Battlestar Galactica fans who would surely appreciate the opportunity to see an entire season of their beloved space adventure without any breaks for once. On the other hand, however, Stargate lovers would have to endure an extra long six-month hiatus to learn the outcomes of this summer’s inevitable half-season-ending cliffhangers. Talk about a dilemma.
