AMC Rookie ‘Bates Motel’ Renewed

Second Season Announced

Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga/Bates Motel

Just four episodes into its freshman run and AMC has already picked up a second season of Psycho-rific newcomer Bates Motel, which stars Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore as Norma and Norman Bates. The news actually broke hours before the fourth installment even aired on April 8, making the series’ accomplishment that much more notable.

During its March 18 premiere, Bates Motel managed to score the most total viewers and viewers ages 18-49 and 25-54 of any new scripted drama on AMC ever, and the high ratings have continued since then. The basic-cable network is also quite pleased with the show’s great reviews and how quickly it has attracted a large number of devoted fans.

Look for ten episodes in the second season of Bates Motel to match the ten in the current run. Viewers will have to wait all the way until 2014 to watch them, however, which is pretty much the only downside to this development.

Bates Motel currently airs Mondays on A&E at 10pm ET
